The Success of Dr. Mark Holterman

Dr. Mark Holterman is a pediatric surgeon in Peoria, Illinois. He attended college at the University of Virginia. Holterman currently works at Mariam Global Health. Holterman has experience and has been trained in clinical medicine and also basic science research as well. Holterman’s passion is medicine, he is excited and continues to be determined to discover the ways that medicine can be changed worldwide. Currently the CEO and Chief Medical Officer of Mariam Global Health, Holterman has gained valuable experience over the years. Holterman has also done work as a Pediatric Surgeon at OSF Healthcare. He spent over six years working at OSF Healthcare in the Pediatric General Surgery in the children’s hospital.

Prior to working at OSF Healthcare, Holterman spent over six years working as the Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Mark Holterman is the Founder and CEO of Mariam Global Health where he currently works and was started in 2012. Mariam Global Health’s goal is to improve and make a positive impact on global health. Holterman worked in translational research programs as a Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1997 to 2010. Holterman got his first job in the medical field back in 1988 at the University of Virginia where he worked as a Resident in General Surgery. He has also worked on many notable projects throughout the years that are worth noting (Twitter). Dr. Mark Holterman is known for his work on the Trachea Project which he worked with a team to help patients combine their bone marrow cells and creating a replacement trachea that is inserted surgically.

It is also noteworthy and worth mentioning that Dr. Mark Holterman attended Yale earning a BA in Biology. While attending Yale, Holterman was awarded a National Merit Scholar. He was also awarded the Innovative Research Award from the American Diabetes Association. He was also recognized with America’s Top Doctors Award by Castle Connolly in 2008, 2010 – 2015. Holterman has been a part of many different organizations, The American Academy of Pediatrics, Surgical Section, American College of Surgeons and The American Pediatric Surgery Association to name a few.
